Storm Events & Emergency Service
Robies proudly offers emergency services via our answering service. Our normal office hours are 7:30 am until 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. During weekdays, our answering service accepts emergency after-hours requests for service between the hours of 4:30 and 10 pm. No calls are answered between 10 pm and 7:30 am. During the weekend, the answering service accepts after-hours requests for service between the hours of 7:30 am and 10 pm.
Emergency service is offered to Robies active commercial customers (have had regular service within past 2 years) and to Robies active residential customers with a current and active maintenance agreement.
Emergency after-hours service is only provided for situations that the on-call technician determines are emergencies. The on-call technician has full discretion to decide what is and what is not an emergency, without the need for manager approval. Our technicians are fully empowered to decide who is eligible for after-hours service and what situations are considered an emergency.
Special after-hours rates apply, which will be explained by the on-call technician. The on-call technician will collect payment upon completion of the visit unless the item is covered under warranty.
Storm Events
During an intense storm event such as a nor’easter, blizzard, hurricane or tropical storm, Robies will typically see a massive influx of requests for service. A couple key notes about these types of events:
- For the sake of our technician’s safety, Robies will not dispatch a technician while a storm is active.
- Driving snow can cause a generator’s intake to get plugged, causing the unit to fail.
- During many storm events, intense demand for service can result in Robies being unable to assist everyone.
- If your generator has failed, often the power will come back on before a Robies technician is able to get out.
- Robies only offers emergency service to active commercial customers (had regular service within past 2 years).
- Robies only offers emergency service to active residential customers with an active maintenance agreement.
In snowstorms, one of the most common causes of system failures is snow. A furnace, boiler or water heater exhaust vent or fresh air intake can often be covered by piling or drifting snow. This can also affect the fresh air intake or exhaust vent of a natural gas or propane generator. Prior to calling for service, please check to ensure all venting is clear.
